If you’re evaluating a 1-click checkout for an Indian Shopify store, you’ll land on these two names within the first five minutes of research. Both claim near-identical headline numbers — “200M+ shoppers,” “85-90% address prefill,” “40% RTO reduction.” That’s not a coincidence; they’re solving the same problem for the same market. It also means the marketing decks from either side aren’t that useful for actually choosing — they both sound like the obvious answer, because they’re both describing the same category of product.
We implement GoKwik for clients (disclosure at the bottom), but this isn’t a GoKwik-vs-the-world piece — it’s specifically about where these two actually differ, since that’s the comparison that keeps coming up.
Rather skip to an answer? Take our 2-minute checkout quiz — it scores all three platforms (this pair plus Cashfree) against your actual COD mix, AOV, and priorities.
The short version
- Want an RTO reimbursement backstop rather than just prevention? Magic Checkout is the only one of the two with an actual insurance-style product for that — not because of which gateway you happen to be on already (we treat switching as a solved problem), but because that specific capability doesn’t exist on GoKwik.
- COD-heavy, lower AOV (sub-₹1,500), RTO is a real line item on your P&L? GoKwik’s prevention tooling is built specifically around that problem, and its network’s RTO risk data is the deepest differentiator that’s hard to replicate.
- Need WhatsApp/omnichannel engagement and AI-driven customer support, not just checkout? That’s not really a Razorpay category at all — GoKwik bundles it (Kwik Engage), Razorpay doesn’t.
Now the detail, because “it depends” isn’t actually useful without knowing what it depends on.
Address prefill: not actually a GoKwik-exclusive
Our own earlier content on this (and GoKwik’s own sales materials) framed network-based address prefill as something Razorpay doesn’t have. That’s wrong, or at least outdated — Razorpay Magic Checkout makes the same claim, 200M+ saved addresses with auto-fill from its own shopper identity network. Both platforms are drawing on a large base of previously-entered Indian addresses; neither has a clear, demonstrable edge here that we could independently verify. Don’t let either side’s deck convince you this is a differentiator either way.
RTO handling: different approaches, not a clear winner
Both have real tooling now, not just “block COD for risky users”:
- GoKwik: risk-tiered COD, partial-COD-upfront payments, COD surcharging, and 70+ configurable interventions (CAPTCHA, OTP, partial prepaid, hard blocks) driven by its network’s cross-brand RTO data.
- Razorpay Magic: prepay nudges, differential COD fees scaled to risk tier, COD disabled for high-risk shoppers, plus an RTO Protection product — automated reimbursement when a delivery actually fails, which is closer to insurance than prevention.
The practical difference: GoKwik’s prevention data comes from a network that’s more heavily weighted toward D2C/COD-specific brands (hence its own claim of being stronger for COD-heavy categories), while Razorpay’s RTO Protection is a backstop for when prevention doesn’t work, not just another prevention lever. If you want pure prevention, compare directly; if you want a safety net on top, that’s a Razorpay-specific option GoKwik doesn’t have an equivalent of.
Discounting: Razorpay has mostly closed the gap
This was the most outdated part of GoKwik’s own pitch. Razorpay shipped a Coupon Suite that now includes:
- Multicoupon — multiple coupons stackable in a single transaction
- Tiered coupons scaled to cart value
- Audience-targeted codes — scoped to an uploaded list of mobile numbers/emails (functionally the same as “cohort-based” discounting)
So “GoKwik has cohort-based discounting and Razorpay doesn’t” is no longer a true claim — don’t use it in a pitch to a prospect already on Razorpay; they’ll likely know it’s wrong, and it’ll cost you credibility on everything else you say.
What’s still genuinely different:
- Native A/B testing. Kwik Flows is built into GoKwik directly. Razorpay’s A/B testing on discounts/checkout runs through a third-party integration (CustomFit.ai) — it works, but it’s an extra tool and an extra vendor relationship, not one platform.
- RTO-risk-linked discount triggers. GoKwik can condition an offer on a shopper’s risk score (e.g., a prepaid-only freebie shown just to flagged-risky COD shoppers) — because the discount engine and the RTO engine are the same system. Razorpay’s coupon targeting is behavioral/list-based, not RTO-risk-based.
- Cart-stage discounting bundled in. GoKwik Cart (slide cart with upsells/free-gift unlock bars) is part of the same ecosystem as Kwik Checkout. Magic Checkout is checkout-only — it doesn’t touch the cart experience before checkout starts.
Pricing: GoKwik publishes a starting rate, Razorpay doesn’t
- GoKwik: publishes an actual entry-tier rate card on its own site — the Emerging Plan is ₹3,000/month + a 3.5% COD fee + applicable PA (payment aggregator) charges, for stores doing 0–2,000 orders/month. Above that, it’s Enterprise/custom pricing, contact sales. (Worth confirming directly whether that 3.5% applies to COD orders specifically or across all transactions — GoKwik’s own pricing page isn’t fully explicit on that point.)
- Razorpay Magic Checkout: still enterprise-only, contact sales, no published number for the checkout layer itself — on top of Razorpay’s standard gateway fee (razorpay.com/pricing), which is currently running its own new-merchant promo too: 0% platform fee for the first 90 days for merchants under ₹5L/month (same situation as Cashfree — a time-limited offer, not the standing rate, so confirm it’s still live before quoting it). Magic Checkout’s own incremental fee stays unpublished either way, promo or not.
If you’re a lower-volume store (under 2,000 orders/month), GoKwik is the one with an actual number you can do napkin math on before a sales call. If you’re already a Razorpay merchant, Magic Checkout is at least a single vendor relationship and one invoice; GoKwik is a second platform on top of whatever gateway you use. Either way, get the real number for your specific volume before assuming either is the cheaper path.
Who each is actually built for
Based on how both position themselves plus what we’ve seen in practice:
| GoKwik | Razorpay Magic Checkout | |
|---|---|---|
| Best fit | COD-heavy, lower AOV, RTO is a real cost | Prepaid-leaning, want an RTO reimbursement backstop |
| Standout strength | RTO-risk data + prevention tooling | Unified reconciliation, mature coupon suite |
| Engagement/support bundled | Yes (Kwik Engage) | No — payments-first, not a marketing platform |
| A/B testing | Native | Via third-party integration |
Both are a poor fit for very low-volume stores (under roughly 500 orders/month) — the setup and tuning effort isn’t worth it until RTO or cart abandonment is actually costing you meaningful money.
What we actually do
We implement GoKwik specifically because most of our clients are COD-heavy D2C brands where RTO is the real problem, and because the engagement/support layer (Kwik Engage) solves a second problem — customer communication — in the same implementation. If a client is prepaid-leaning and already deep in the Razorpay ecosystem, the honest answer is sometimes “stay on Magic Checkout and let us build the engagement/support layer separately” rather than ripping out a checkout that’s already working fine.
Disclosure: Klickspell is a referral partner for GoKwik, Razorpay, and Cashfree, and may earn a commission regardless of which one a merchant ends up choosing — so there’s no single-platform financial incentive behind this comparison. It’s built from both platforms’ own public claims, cross-checked rather than taken from either one’s sales deck alone.
If Cashfree is also on your shortlist, we’ve done the same fact-check against it: GoKwik vs Cashfree Checkout 360 and Razorpay Magic Checkout vs Cashfree Checkout 360. Or see all three side by side in one table.
Already leaning GoKwik? Checkout is one of 10 products they now sell — take the GoKwik product fit quiz to see which of the other nine (if any) are actually worth adding.
Not sure which fits your store?
The honest answer depends on your COD mix, AOV, and what’s already in your stack — not which deck has the bigger number on it. Configure a project scope and mention checkout in your notes, or book a 20-minute call and we’ll look at your actual order data before recommending either.
